The short version: prayer times and Qibla are calculated estimates, not religious rulings. Reasonable methods disagree by real minutes. Where our times differ from your local mosque, follow your local mosque.
People are often surprised that two Islamic apps, both careful and well intentioned, show Fajr several minutes apart. This is not a bug in either one.
Prayer times are derived from the sun's position relative to your exact location. Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and sunrise follow from solar geometry and are largely uncontroversial. Fajr and Isha are different: they depend on how far below the horizon the sun must be for true dawn and full night — and that angle is a scholarly judgement, not an astronomical constant. Different institutions have settled on different angles, and each is defensible.
On top of that sit your GPS accuracy, your elevation, your device's time zone and daylight-saving data, and whether your mosque applies its own precautionary adjustment. A few minutes of variance is normal and expected.
This is why we support many methods rather than picking one and calling it correct.
Prayer times on this website are computed using the AlAdhan API, a widely used open prayer-times service built on standard astronomical algorithms. Inputs are your coordinates, the date, your time zone, the calculation method you select, and your Asr convention.
The underlying astronomy follows established solar position algorithms; the differences between methods come entirely from the twilight angles and adjustments each institution specifies, not from different mathematics.
City pages on this site show times for the city's representative coordinates. If you are some distance from the city centre, your own location will differ slightly — use the app for times computed from where you actually are.

If your mosque publishes its own timetable and none of these match it exactly, the Custom option lets you enter the Fajr and Isha angles your mosque uses.
Asr begins when an object's shadow reaches a defined length. The two conventions are:
The Hanafi Asr therefore falls later, often by 30–60 minutes depending on the season and your latitude. Both are selectable in the app; neither is a default we impose on you.
Above roughly 48° latitude there are parts of the year when the sun never dips far enough below the horizon for astronomical Fajr or Isha to occur at all. The calculation simply has no answer, so a rule must be applied.
Standard approaches include dividing the night into portions, using the middle of the night, or applying a fixed interval after Maghrib. Communities in northern Europe, Canada and Russia differ on which to use, and mosques in the same city sometimes differ from each other.
If you are at high latitude, we strongly recommend confirming your settings against your local mosque rather than trusting any app's default — this is the case where apps disagree most.
Qibla is computed as the great-circle initial bearing from your coordinates to the Kaaba at 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E. This is the shortest path over the surface of the earth, which is the standard basis used by Islamic authorities and by other major Qibla tools.
The compass view depends on your device's magnetometer, and that is where practical error comes from rather than the mathematics. Accuracy suffers near metal, electronics, magnets, vehicles, and reinforced concrete. If the needle drifts or seems wrong, calibrate by moving the device in a figure-eight motion and step away from interference.
We show true bearing, correcting for magnetic declination at your location. For an important determination — orienting a prayer room or a building — verify against a second source.
The Islamic calendar is lunar, and the start of each month traditionally depends on the physical sighting of the new crescent. Because sighting depends on local visibility and weather, countries legitimately begin a month on different days.
Tawhid's Hijri dates are based on the standard tabular calculation used across Islamic software, which predicts month starts arithmetically. This is accurate for everyday planning and for viewing the calendar, but it is a prediction, not a sighting.
For Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and the day of Arafah, follow the announcement of your local or national moon-sighting authority. A calculated calendar can be a day out from the sighted one, and we would rather say so plainly than have you miss a fast or a prayer.
The Arabic text follows the Uthmani script of the standard Madani mushaf, the recension used in the overwhelming majority of printed Qurans worldwide.
Translations are reproduced from established published works rather than produced by us. Well-known English editions available in the app include Sahih International, Yusuf Ali and Pickthall, alongside translations covering more than 50 languages. Recitations include reciters such as Mishary Rashid Alafasy and Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais.
We do not alter the text of any translation. Where a translation is licensed from a rights holder, we use it under that licence; where we have relied on a public-domain edition, it is reproduced as published.
Translation is interpretation. Two faithful translators will render the same verse differently, and no translation carries the authority of the Arabic. Where meaning matters to a decision, consult the Arabic and a qualified scholar.
Hadith content is drawn from the recognised canonical collections, including Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Jamiʻ at-Tirmidhi, Sunan Abu Dawud and Sunan Ibn Majah, together with the widely used compilations Riyad as-Salihin and the Forty Hadith of Imam an-Nawawi.
Each narration is presented with its collection and reference so you can verify it against a printed edition. We reproduce narrations as they appear in the source collection and do not add our own grading or commentary.
If you find a mistake — a mistranslation, a wrong Hadith reference, a prayer time that looks clearly off for your city — please tell us. Corrections to religious content are the highest-priority messages we receive.
