Sehri & Iftar Explained
Sehri (Suhoor) is the pre-dawn meal eaten before Fajr prayer. Muslims stop eating and drinking before the Fajr adhan. This meal provides energy for the day's fast.
Iftar is the meal that breaks the fast at sunset, when the Maghrib adhan is called. Traditionally, dates and water are consumed first, followed by a full meal.
Ramadan Duas
Dua for breaking fast (Iftar):
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ
Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika amantu wa ala rizqika aftartu (O Allah, I fasted for You, I believe in You, and I break my fast with Your provision).
Dua when starting fast (Sehri):
وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ
Wa bisawmi ghadin nawaytu min shahri Ramadan (I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan).
Taraweeh Prayer
Taraweeh is the special night prayer performed during Ramadan after Isha. It consists of 20 rak'ahs (or 8 in some traditions), with breaks between every 4 rak'ahs. Muslims recite portions of the Quran throughout the month, often completing the entire Quran by Eid. Find Isha prayer times for your city to know when Taraweeh begins.
