Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'thaa' as-safari wa kaabati al-manzari wa soo'i al-munqalabi fi al-mali wal-ahl.

Translation: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, from grief upon return, and from evil in property and family.

Explanation

The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught this dua for those embarking on a journey. It seeks protection from travel difficulties, sadness when returning, and harm to one's wealth and family. A shorter travel dua is "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah) when mounting a vehicle. When returning, Muslims often say "Aibuna wa'abna wa hamdulillah" (We return, we repent, we worship, and we praise our Lord).
